Invitation to become a member school
Greetings Educators,
Maine College Circle is a nonprofit group of Maine individuals, educators, businesses, schools, and organizations committed to helping more Maine students make more of their opportunities in higher education.
I am writing to ask that your school join us and become a member of Maine College Circle in 2010.
Very simply, that means that we are asking that your school make a $100 contribution to the 501(c)(3), publicly supported, Maine College Circle. For our part, Maine College Circle will do the following:
1.Your $100 contribution will fund a $100 college scholarship for Maine elementary and middle school students, and in your school district, if there is a qualified applicant. Maine College Circle has been supporting these “Future of Maine” scholarships for the past five years.
2.In February, we will send you a pdf copy of the 2010 Maine College Advisor, 230+ pages of information and advice for Maine students and parents and educators on college opportunities, college admissions, and financial aid. You will be free to copy or share this resource as you wish.
3.We will also send you the Maine College Finder, which is 20+ pages of lists of colleges Maine students typically consider, sorted by majors they are strong in. This is in Word format so you can alter it as you wish. I use it every day, and it is already in many schools throughout the state.
4.We will send you a copy of the 17” X 22” posters 388 Great Colleges for Maine Students, 232 Great College Majors for Maine Students, and 360 Careers for Maine Students. These, too, are already in many Maine schools.
5.As best we can, we will try to include Maine College Circle member schools in our college aspirations workshop visits, which have already reach 102 Maine communities.
6.Maine College Circle will invite all scholarship recipients to a campus visit at a Maine college in the fall of 2010. And, we will ask member high school guidance counselors to host each grade 3 – 6 scholarship recipient in their district for a lunch and meeting at the high school with the guidance counselor and some college-bound high school students.
7.And, we will look to you for advice on how we can be more successful throughout the state in this mission.
Like you, we want to help Maine students build aspirations for education. We are convinced that this long-term investment in our children is the best hope for their future and the future of our state. We must start talking with students early, give them the information and encouragement they need to build their aspirations, and build communities around them to help them reach their goals.
We can build a brighter future if we all work together today.
Happy New Year!
