Scholarship recipients will be notified in early May. The $100 college scholarship, plus interest, is redeemable at the time of college enrollment.

Writing these essays offers students and classrooms a valuable writing experience with outside assessment. The scholarship program encourages conversation between students and parents about college and career aspirations; it encourages Maine families to look ahead to the opportunities in higher education; and it encourages Maine businesses, civic organizations, and individuals to make a direct investment in these children and in the future of our state.

Selection of winners will be based primarily on effort – effort in the application writing process and effort in school. Applicants are asked to include supporting comments from their parent(s) and from their teacher.

The purpose of the Future of Maine College Scholarship Program, which began in 2006, is to help younger students throughout Maine understand their opportunities in education beyond high school, to encourage early academic planning for college, and to show public support for the aspirations of younger Maine students of all academic and economic backgrounds.
